PROGRESSIVE POWER METAL
The world of metal has long been awaiting the arrival of a new light, of a fresh force both powerful and majestic ... and the Australian band EYEFEAR is here to fill that void with their unique blend of heavy progressive metal, soaring vocals and neo-classical elements. |

EYEFEAR was formed in the summer of '94 by Con Papazoglou, Rob Gorham and Zain Kimmie along with a couple of friends. After months of rehearsing and playing various local gigs, the band entered Toyland Studios and recorded their debut album, "Edge Of Existence", released in March '96.
By 1998 the remaining members of EYEFEAR (Con, Rob and Zain) decided to give it another shot, and hooked up with a new guitarist and another singer. Through experimenting with sounds and other effects they discovered that other musical influences and sounds would add great depth to their repertoire. They needed something else to give them a truly "BIG" sound, and to embellish the dramatic and ever changing nature of their music. By mid '98 the solution was clear; the band needed to add a keyboardist to the line-up. Attacking guitar, soaring harmonies, rhythmic power and percussion, thoughtful lyrics delivered with a versatile vocal arrangement - all of these things were already there to set the scene for a new musical direction. Work immediately began on a new crop of songs, which eventually lead to the self produced EP, "Dawn - A New Beginning", a very suitable title indeed!!! This EP was originally recorded more for promotional purposes and to showcase the new members. By September 2000 new vocalist Danny Cecati came on board. Thus opening yet another new chapter in EYEFEAR. Danny used to be the front man for the Australian metal band Pegazus and it was well known that he was in search for the right band that would show his true worth. He brings a wealth of talent, experience, professionalism and knowledge. A new keyboardist was found in Sam Giaccotto, who is the perfect match for the band, and someone who already now have a huge influence on the sound of EYEFEAR. At the end of 2003 the band started to mail out their 3-song promotional CD featuring some fresh new recordings, to selected people in the business, thus catching the immediate interest of Danish based metal-agency Intromental Management. The demo was also voted "Demo Of The Month" in Germany's Rock Hard Magazine. "9 Elements Of Inner Vision" was recorded and produced at Palm Studios, Australia by Enmdel Rivers (Vanishing Point, Black Majesty), and it was mixed at Los Angered Studios, Sweden by Andy LaRocque (King Diamond, Death). This is one true masterpiece of progressive metal with lots of melodies and a power-metal attitude. "9 Elements Of Inner Vision" has undoubtedly become the break-through of this hard working band, with release dates in 2005 in the main territories: Europe/Canada/Australia by Massacre Records, U.S.A. by Nightmare Records and Asia by Melodic Heaven. By 2006 the band found themselves busy recording their next opus - the album "A World Full Of Grey". Once again recorded at home in Australia and mixed during fall '06 in Sweden by Andy LaRocque, this album symbolizes the next big step forward for Eyefear. In March 2007 Eyefear signed with Dockyard1 Records for the worldwide release of "A World Full Of Grey". The album received awesome praise in the media all around the world, and with a bunch of large shows back in Australia (a.o. with Nightwish), the band found themselves moving another important step up the ladder. With a fresh approach, although a bassist short - as Rob decided to pull out of the band - Eyefear began writing for their fourth album. By mid-2008 the album was completed and "The Unseen" saw the light of day end of 2008 through Dockyard1 Records. In 2009 the band did a ton of promotion based on the great response that "The Unseen" received from the Worldwide media, and they also added two new members: bassist Evan Harris and keyboardist Seb Schneider (to replace Sammy, who decided to part ways with Eyefear early 2009). Musically you can easily draw parallels between the music of Eyefear and giants of the melodic / power / progressive metal territory such as Queensryche, Balance Of Power, Iron Maiden and Fates Warning. However, Eyefear have a sound of their own, and can easily hold their own to the aforementioned groups in terms of songwriting and artistical performance. |
